Alexandrina: Library With Famous History and Bright Future

Abstract

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina was opened on October 6th 2002 at the area of 45.000 square meters. It is located at the same place where once stood the Great Library of Alexandria which was destroyed in the 7th century. It was constructed with a purpose to collect all the knowledge of the world (international dimension) which would be used by present and future generations, and to be the library of the 21st century. Its construction was supported by many Arab countries but also by other world countries under the UNESCO. National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina has a very good cooperation with the Alexandrina, one of the national libraries of the world, which in the past had a similar destiny as our own library.
