Abstract
Objective: The main objective of this paper is to present the library’s role in project activities within the Horizon2020 pilot project YUFERING Full Open Science, which ran from May 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023, and aimed to challenge and change the research culture and make open science “the new normal.”
Methodology: The paper provides an overview and analysis of the activities conducted by the Centre for Open Science and Scientific Information Management at the University of Rijeka Library within the YUFERING Full Open Science project. It systematically collects and organises data on the events, training sessions, and communication activities undertaken as part of the project. The analysis focuses on identifying examples of good practice and challenges in implementing open science at the University of Rijeka. Particular attention is given to the experiences and contributions of the University of Rijeka research teams involved in the project. Their results and observations are incorporated into the analysis and serve as concrete examples of good practice, especially regarding team cooperation, knowledge transfer, and the adaptation of open science principles across different scientific disciplines.
Results: Of the eight applied research teams from the University of Rijeka, five met the set criteria and obtained FOS (Full Open Science) certification. The Open Science Centre played a key role in this process. Its experts provided continuous mentoring, consulting, and assistance, which significantly contributed to the teams’ success. The process involved a multi-layered educational and advisory approach. Four Open Science Café educational events were organised, along with one cycle of the lifelong learning programme Information Tools for Researchers, lasting 15 hours. More than ten individual consultations and mini-educational sessions were also conducted, ensuring personalised support for researchers.
Originality: This paper highlights the key role of the Centre for Open Science, operating within the University of Rijeka Library, as a central support point for open science at the University of Rijeka and as an active participant in EU projects related to open science.
