Preservation Metadata: Vital Components of Digital Heritage Preservation

Abstract

In this paper preservationmetadata are interpreted as structured information that support and document preservation of digital objects. At first, significant international researchprojects that consider preservation metadata as important componentsof long term preservation strategy
of digital objects are mentioned, then the current practices of individual the development and implementation of preservation metadata schemes are discussed.Conclusion indicates the representative upcoming challenges of preservation metadata.
