Abstract

The paper starts from the claim that our society is still far behind developed countries in encouraging reading and developing a culture of reading citizens of all ages and especially children and young adults. A small number of serious scientific and technical efforts and activities, and insufficient literature on reading and ways of promoting reading in Bosnian/ Croatian/Serbian. For the design and implementation of appropriate programs promoting reading intended for children and young people most responsible are the libraries and schools, because it is an important part of the educational process and education. Several significant projects in the region to encourage research and reading that is implemented in recent years gives hope that things are slowly changing for the better.
