Vijećnica (City Hall) in Sarajevo

Abstract

Sarajevo's City Hall is the most significant example of pseudo-Moorish style. The author presents historical facts and the course of events related to the construction of City Hall and its opening in 1896. He gives the data on architects of Vijećnica and elaborates the development of new architectural expression. He analyses the functions and ambient of architectural objects, as well as the characteristics of pseudo-Moorish style. The author gives his vision on the future of Vijećnica with a special emphasis on "a memory of place".
