Abstract

The significance of the internet as a research medium in schools, universities and science is increasing rapidly. Nowadays libraries do not only archive and rent books and journals, but also satisfy the increasing desire for web related information about scientific and cultural subjects. For realization of this task the DFG (German Research Foundation) is supporting libraries in Germany. With the Scientific Library Services and Information Systems the DFG provides initial funds to build Virtual Libraries for each Special Subject Collection, that are maintained by the libraries after the initial project phase. This article is giving a short introduction at one of these online research resources, the Virtual Library cibera.de.
