Popularization of Cultural Heritage on Example of Publishing Activity of City Library and Reading Room Kotor

Abstract

In this paper, we will present publishing activities of the City Library and reading room in regard to the popularization and presentation of the cultural heritage of Boka and Montenegro. The publishing activity of the library is largely achieved thanks to the Programme for the Protection and Conservation of Cultural property of the Ministry of Culture of Montenegro. For years, this program supports, finances and co-finances programs and projects of major importance for the realization of public interest in the field of cultural heritage of Montenegro – conservation, museum, library, archive and cinematic activities. We will present three publications published by the City Library and the reading room of Kotor under the projects of the Program for the Protection and Preservation of Cultural property of the Ministry of Culture of Montenegro: a scientific publication by dr. Katarina Mitrović Benediktinci na području Barske nadbiskupije i Kotorske biskupije (9. stoljeće – 1571) (Benedictines in the area of the Archdiocese of Bar and Kotor Diocese (9th century – 1571), poetry collection Pontapeti by poet Dubravka Jovanović and publication Dobrotske pjesmarice by Aleksandra Tomović. With the realization of these projects, the City Library and reading room Kotor has significantly enriched the collection of area and published publications relevant to Boka and Montenegrin literature and cultural history. In this way, we have actively contributed to the preservation, protection, valorisation, presentation and popularization of cultural heritage, the dissemination of knowledge about the values and importance of cultural heritage, the understanding of different cultures, and the establishment of cooperation between heritage institutions.
