Abstract

Memory of the World is a UNESCO programme intended to preserve world documentary heritage. Programme identifies the heritage on international, national and regional level. Strategy of the Programme includes four main components: identification of documentary heritage; rising awareness of documentary heritage preservation need; preservation of special documentary heritage and access to documentary heritage. The collection of islamic manuscripts of Safvet-beg Bašagić, included in the funds of University Library in Bratislava, is presented in the Memory of the World Register. In the Collection there are 284 codices with 589 manuscripts: 393 in Arabic, 117 in Turkish and 88 in Persian language.
