Abstract

This work deals with the library of Fadil-pasha Sherifovic in Gradacac. It is contribution to studying the history of libraries in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Fadil-pasha Sherifovic Library in Gradacac was built in 1255. by Hijri calendar, or 1839/40. year in the yard of Hussein-captain mosque. It was the first public library in Gradacac. Its founder and vakif was a famous statesman and poet Fadil-pasha Serifovic. The library has been worked since 1839/40. till 1893. Its educational and cultural role in lives of Gradačac and neighboring places would be a significant. The manuscripts and printed books in the oriental languages, which deal with islamic sciences, oriental linguistics and history, established its collection of books. One of its librarians was hafiz Mustafa ef. Imamovic. Also, its current cultural-historical value, as a part of national monument of Hussein-captain mosque, is important. After its closing, a part of its books has been deposited and today is situated in Islamic community in Gradacac and in the oriental collection of books in local museum in Gradacac. It is planned to rebuild its work in the near future.
